Hairston Could Be Option

Malik Hairston is a big name in Michigan basketball, and pretty soon he's going to be a big name nationally. The small forward from Detroit had a good weekend at the Boo Williams tourney and lists his favorites...

Speedy Walker's The Family AAU team is loaded on the perimeter. They've got a pair of Michigan commitments in Joe Crawford and Ron Coleman. The third member of the talented trio is Malik Hairston, 6-5 JR SF, Detroit (Mich.) Renaissance. This 16-year old junior is going to be a big-timer in his own right.

Hairston, who averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds at Renaissance this past season, has a versatile game. He's an athletic, active rebounder who can also step outside and make shots past the 3-point arc. As we said, he's a young junior age-wise, so there's nothing but good things ahead in his future.

At the Boo Williams tournament this last weekend, Hairston gave a list of his favorite schools that included UCLA, Ohio State, Missouri, Michigan State and Kentucky.

BRO Editor's Note: Of course, with UCLA's scholarship limitations, and the fact that Hairson is a wing, he could be a longshot as a Bruin. But it's good to note the interest of national recruits such as Hairston and keep them in mind as possibilities should more scholarships open up.
