Honolulu (Hawaii) defensive end Luke Kaumatule was one of two players from the state of Hawaii invited to Nike’s “The Opening”. The 6’7.5”, 260-pound junior performed well in the pass rush drills and was one of the most physically impressive athletes in attendance.
“It was pretty fun,” said Kaumatule. “I met a lot of players and got to go up against some of the best linemen in the country.”
Kaumatule holds offers from Arizona, BYU, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, Utah and Washington. From those eleven schools, he has narrowed his leaders down to the four programs he plans on visiting.
“I’m really considering Stanford, UCLA, California and Oregon,” said Kaumatule. “They are all pretty even right now.”
“I know that I want to take an official visit to those four,” said Kaumatule. “But I am still open to other schools and to maybe taking a visit.”
Kaumatule is not close to a decision and plans on waiting until signing day to announce. However, he is sure of what he is looking for from the colleges recruiting him.
“It just has to feel right,” said Kaumatule. “I also want a good education, plus a good football program. I want to get my degree.”
