The speedy Nathan Kimbrough (6-1,
165, Santa Fe Springs (Calif.)
Santa Fe) is rising fast on many
recruiting lists, and hearing from most of the top schools in the
West.
“I’ve heard from
Colorado,
Arizona
State,
Boise
State, USC and UCLA and also
Iowa
State,” said Kimbrough.
Kimbrough had a strong showing at
the Nike Combine this week, running a 4.48 40 and jumping 30 inches, while also
looking solid in the one-on-one drills. “I think I did real good. I had a good
time and thought I showed myself well,” said Kimbrough.
While being recruited primarily as
a wide receiver, Kimbrough looks to also have some potential as a good-sized
cornerback, and also hopes to see plenty of action on special teams in college.
“I definitely want to return kicks and punts,” he said. “ I like to have everyone coming at me,
and I think I can do some good things with the ball in my hands, so yeah, I want
to be a returner.”
Currently, Kimbrough’s top two are
the pair in his backyard. “I prefer to stay in
California, so UCLA and USC are my
top two. I really can’t say either
is ahead but they are my two top schools.”
While he has the chance to take
several trips, if the right offer comes, he could end the recruitment pretty
quickly. He said, “It won’t necessarily be the first one who offers, because I
want to weigh my options. But if it feels right, I will make a commitment. My mom wants me to just make the right
decision. She doesn’t care where really, she just wants me to go and graduate
from college.”
Kimbrough plans
to attend the Iowa
State camp this summer. He has a 3.0 GPA, took the SAT but wasn’t happy with his score and plans
to take it again. “My mom said to make sure I concentrate on my school because
that’s what will take me places, so I am going to study to take the SAT again,”
he said.
