With good size at 6-5 and 230, Jimmy Miller from Westlake has some strong interest from the Pac-10, Big 12 and other conferences. He talks about his recruitment, his favorites, and his time frame for making a commitment...

Jimmy Miller, 6-5, 230, Westlake Village (Calif.) Westlake, is a prospect who has many college coaches intrigued.

He’s been thought of primarily as a defensive end, last year having recorded 81 tackles and 18 ½ sacks for Westlake. But some college coaches believe he might be better suited as a tight end, having good, soft hands.

“Some schools have said they’re recruiting me for defensive end and others for tight end,” Miller said. “Some have said both.”

There’s been a steady flock of college coaches out to watch Miller (and the other prospects at Westlake) during spring practice. “We’ve had so many coaches out at practice I can’t even keep track of them,” Miller said. UCLA coaches, as well as coaches from USC, Stanford, Notre Dame, and Washington State have come to campus recently.

Miller said that the schools recruiting him that he likes are UCLA, Michigan, USC, Colorado, Oregon State and Cal. Northwestern and Oregon State had offered him a scholarship a while back, and Cal just recently offered. Miller also said that Colorado “has done a lot of talking about offering.” He also said that he was expecting – and hoping – for an offer from UCLA fairly soon. “I talk to the UCLA coaches a lot, especially coach Bernardi,” Miller said. “I thought maybe they’d offer by the end of May.”

When asked if he had a favorite at this point, Miller said, “I like UCLA. And I like USC. Those two. Growing up I was a fan of both. Really I was just a fan of college football.” He’s visited spring practice at both UCLA and USC and said that UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell was “awesome,” and that USC’s coaching staff was “really good.”

When it comes to committing, Miller thought he’d take some time, but had a plan. “I want to take enough time to get offers from the schools I’m interested in. If that happens, I’d like to commit by the end of summer. I want to get it out of the way and then concentrate on winning a CIF championship.”

Miller said he has a 3.2 GPA and scored an 1180 on his SAT.
