The Phillies tried to clear some roster room, but it cost them right-hander Tyson Brummett. The 28-year old right-hander was claimed by the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Phillies took somewhat of a calculated risk by placing Tyson Brummett on waivers in an attempt to outright him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The risk was that another team would claim him and they did; Toronto grabbed Brummett with a waiver claim.

Brummett made his major league debut with the Phillies this past September when he had his contract purchased by the Phillies for the final series of the season. With pitcher Tyler Cloyd ailing, the Phillies figured they would need another arm in the bullpen and selected Brummett.

The right-hander made his debut October 3rd, throwing 2/3 of an inning against Washington, allowing two hits, but no runs. He also struck out the two hitters that he retired.

Brummett split the season between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley, compiling a 5-6, 3.20 record between the two stops. Of his 44 minor league appearances, eight were starts.

The Phillies made two other moves, outrighting catcher Steven Lerud and infielder Pete Orr to Lehigh Valley.
