Wildcats blown out at UCLA

Arizona was blown out by UCLA on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl. Read on for a complete recap of the loss.

The belief going into Saturday's game between UCLA and Arizona is that it would be a close contest.

It was anything but, as Arizona started slowly and never recovered en route to a 66-10 loss to UCLA at the Rose Bowl.

UCLA started on its own 25-yard line with a nine-yard pass from Brett Hundley to Shaquelle Evans followed by a six-yard pass to Johnathan Franklin. Two plays later, Franklin gained nine on the ground and three plays after that, Evans caught another nine-yard pass. It only took two more plays for the Bruins to score, as Franklin ran it in from 37 yards out and the extra point made it 7-0 early in the first quarter.

UCLA forced Arizona into a three and out and a bad punt put the Bruins on the Arizona 34-yard line. Franklin started the drive with two consecutive runs for seven yards and after a defensive holding call a few plays later, Hundley scored from six yards out as the extra point made it 14-0 less than six minutes into the first quarter.

Arizona had another three and out and the Bruins started on their own 15-yard line with a 17-yard run by Franklin. Hundley then found Joseph Fauria for 11 yards and four plays later, found Franklin for an 13-yard completion. Jordon James gained eight on the ground two plays later and Franklin followed up with seven more. Shortly after, Hundley found Jordan Payton for the 17-yard touchdown, as the extra point made it 21-0 with under four minutes to go in the first quarter.

Arizona punted once again and actually forced a 3rd and 17, but Hundley found Fauria for 23 yards and the first down. Two plays later, James gained six on the ground and the Wildcats forced a punt. Unfortunately, Richard Morrison muffed the punt and UCLA took over in UA territory. Three plays later, Hundley hit Jerry Johnson for 46 yards and Damien Thigpen ran it in from a yard out as the extra point made it 28-0.

Arizona started on its own 25-yard line and got a 19-yard pass to Garic Wharton a few plays into the drive. Matt Scott then gained six on the ground and then found Buckner for five yards before getting two pass interference calls to get deep into UCLA territory. However, the drive then stalled and John Bonano was forced to kick a 28-yard field goal to cut the lead to 28-3.

UCLA went to the ground on the ensuing drive, but it started with a 25-yard pass to Evans. Thigpen got UCLA deep into Arizona territory with two combined runs for 15 yards before Franklin gained 16 total yards on two carries. Franklin then ran it in from two yards out and the extra point made it 35-3 with a few minutes left in the first half.

Arizona was forced into yet another three and out and Hundley found Johnson for 11 yards to get into Arizona territory, as he found Fauria in the endzone for yet another touchdown, making it 42-3 at the half.

UCLA started the half with a field goal and Arizona took over on its own 21-yard line with a 36-yard pass to Austin Hill. Ka'Deem Carey then gained eight on the ground and three plays later, Scott hit Johnny Jackson for seven yards. Carey proceeded to gain six on the ground and two plays later, Dan Buckner caught a 12-yard pass.

Three plays later, Carey dove in from a yard out, as the extra point made it 45-10 in the middle of the third quarter.

There was not any comeback to be had, however, as Scott went down in the third quarter and B.J. Denker came in. Denker fumbled and UCLA capitalized, as a 21-yard touchdown throw to Fauria basically ended the game.
