Kazemi Cleared

Kazemi was a double-double contributor at Rice

Former Rice forward Arsalan Kazemi has been cleared to play for Oregon this season the school announced Thursday.

EUGENE, Ore.,- Kazemi had joined the team over the summer, but was awaiting ruling on the hardship waiver he had applied for until Thursday. He'll have just one season with the Ducks after playing the previous three with the Owls.

He'll be expected to play against Vanderbilt Friday night, although head coach Dana Altman did disclose on Wednesday that Kazemi had an injured groin which had limited his practice up to this point.

While at Rice, the Iranian-born forward, had averaged double digits in both points and rebounds each of the last two seasons, and was named to the C-USA Second Team as a junior.

At 6-foot-7 226 pounds, he's most active in the post, however has exhibited solid perimeter skills as well.

ESPN's Andy Katz, who first reported the news, believes the addition of Kazemi should bring Oregon "into contention for a top-four finish in the Pac-12".

Also, former Oregon star Luke Jackson said on his twitter account that he was "impressed with his [Kazemi's] versatility", after watching the team practice today.

A couple of other recruiting notes, Oregon officially announced the LOI signing of 6-8 forward Jordan Bell.

Also, a few internet sources are announcing the commitment of Sprague High School senior A.J. Lapray. Lapray averaged 21 points per game as a junior last season.
