Huskies blown out at home by Rams

Colorado State improved to 4-0 on the season as they blew out the Washington Huskies 73-55 in Seattle. The Rams were led by the 15 points from Greg Smith and the 13 points and 12 rebounds from Cole Iverson.

With Scott Suggs out of the lineup with plantar fasciitis, Lorenzo Romar's rotation was severely limited and it showed. Desmond Simmons got the start as the off-guard tonight and finished the game with three points and four rebounds.

The Rams outrebounded the Huskies 40 to 21, and outhustled the home team the entire evening.

Washington was led by the career high 28 points from junior C.J. Wilcox, but no one else on the Husky roster broke into double figures.

The Rams used effective back screens and pick and rolls to stay with the Huskies early. The Dawgs high-post offense was also working, as Gaddy and Wilcox scored early. A Jernard Jarreau 15-footer in transition gave the Huskies a 14-12 lead.

However the Rams stayed close because of rebounding, as the visitors doubled up on the board, grabbing 14 of the first 21 rebounds.

An Abdul Gaddy three made it 23-19 as the Huskies looked to gain some separation from Colorado State. However on the next possession, CSU racked up five straight offensive rebounds. Romar barked from the bench for his guys to wake up and hit the glass but they never answered the call.

Washington clung to a 30-28 lead at the half. The Rams rebounding edge of 23-15 and their 8-6 assist edge were the story. Otherwise this game was an early blow out because the Huskies certainly shot well enough, but the Huskies also had zero points from their bench to that point.

Washington got off to a good start in the second half as Wilcox and Aziz N'Diaye scored inside and out. The Huskies got up six, however CSU didn't back down and ran off eight straight points to take the lead back. Dorian Green knocked down a pair of treys to push the visitors to a seven point lead. After Smith hit a long two, the Huskies trailed 47-38 and Romar had to call time out.

Washington then proceeded to fall apart and Colorado State blew out the Huskies from there on out. Their interior players flashed open for easy baskets and their outside shooters found the range and the Huskies wilted. 24 offensive rebounds by the Rams compared to 21 TOTAL rebounds by the Huskies allowed the visitors to coast to an easy road victory over Washington.

Washington fell to 2-3, including two losses at home already. They have a lot of things to address and a lot of issues to solve. Their next seven games are at home but it is pretty clear that without Scott Suggs, this team lacks serious fire power.
Husky Scoring: Wilcox 28, Gaddy 9, N'Diaye 8, Andrews 5, Simmons 3, Jarreau 2.
Husky Rebounding: N'Diaye 8, Simmons 4, Wilcox 3, Jarreau 2, Gaddy 1, Andrews 1.
