Marshall Has Elite Potential

Iman Marshall

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Long Beach Poly super sophomore Iman Marshall, who has the size and skills to be the next elite cornerback in Southern California, showcased his potential in a 35-17 win over Mater Dei in the Pac-5 final on Friday night...

For Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei to have a legitimate shot at winning the Pac-5 championship last week, four-star tight end/wide receiver Thomas Duarte was going to have to have a huge game for the Monarchs – and Long Beach Poly cornerback Iman Marshall made sure that didn't happen.

"We had a lot of doubters and it was a great accomplishment for the team," said Marshall. "We brought the championship back to Long Beach Poly."

Marshall went head to head with the 6-4, 225-pound receiver for most of the night, and more than held his own, while leading Poly to a 35-17 victory.

"He's a great player and tough cover," Marshall said. "We are just so athletic on defense. Everybody contributed to this win and I am thankful for the W.

"I am proud to be able to do that on this big stage right here. I proved that I can lock anybody down. It's confidence."

Just a sophomore, Marshall has already established himself as one of the top cover corners in Southern California, and is the early favorite to be the top 2015 defensive back in the state.

Already holding a scholarship offer from UCLA, Marshall recently added his second offer.

"I recently picked up an offer from Washington State. Hopefully I can pick up some more over the course of the season," he said. "I don't really know much about them but my teammate Gerard Wicks is committed there, so he wants to touch bases with me about it."

So who will be next to offer the talented cornerback?

"I think Washington. They are a great program and are turning things around with great athletes," Marshall said. "They are bringing a lot of California guys over there so the environment will be good."
