Moala Makes Improvements

Poasi Moala

UCLA continues to stockpile talent in the trenches and several Bruins verbal commits were present for the Cal State Game in Visalia, including Poasi Moala, who talked about his Bruin future...

The second Jim Mora set foot on UCLA's campus, he strove to make the Bruins tougher.

The team's 2012 training camp in 100-degree August San Bernardino heat was symbolic of this quest.

Solid recruitment of beef up front is yet another sign that Mora means business.

Offensive tackle Poasi Moala will provide a 2013 class complement to defensive tackle Kenneth Clark.

The six-foot-five, 270-pound three-star recruit out of Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde has the length to be an elite pass blocker on the outside.

Now, it's time to pack on some pounds of necessary mass.

"I'm going to be spending a lot of time in the weight room," he said. "I want to get up to 280 soon."

Moala says that his focus is to get faster over the offseason.

"I will be working hard on my footwork," he said, adding that the quick-shuffle ladder drill will be an essential key tool in developing step-back quickness for pass blocking.

Moala, a onetime Washington commit, repeated that his switch to UCLA was a "local thing."

His Moreno Valley home is only an hour and a half from the Bruins' Westwood campus, which he will officially visit the weekend of January 11.

He is particularly excited about the fellow members of UCLA's 2013 offensive line class, which includes Arizona four-star tackle Kenny Lacy, Texas four-star guard Caleb Benenoch, and California four-star Alex Redmond as verbal commits.

"I know about four guys already and am looking forward to meeting more," Moala said. "It's a very good recruiting class."
