Terry Rozier had a career day, as he went for 68 points in a game in Louisville. Plus this notebook has updates on Brewster guards Martez Harrison and Kevin Zabo.

Rozier’s big weekend

Terry Rozier made a statement this past weekend.

Playing in front of his future fans in Louisville, Ky., Rozier, a 6-foot-2 combination guard, went for 68 points and lead Hargrave to a double overtime win over ASA on Saturday.

Rozier, who committed to Louisville in the fall of 2012, missed the first five minutes of the game and had just 13 points at halftime.

Then Rozier turned it up a notch.

Rozier scored 14 points in the first four minutes of the second frame and began to slice his way to the rim at will. Midway through the second half he began to heat up from long range and by the end of the second half Rozier was sitting at 50 points.

The game went into a pair of overtimes and once the dust settled, Rozier had scored 68 points on 19-for-37 shooting, including 8-for-14 from three and 22-for-24 from the three throw line.

Since covering recruiting I’ve seen some high point totals, but Rozier’s effort was the best I’ve seen. Prior to Saturday night the highest point total I had witnessed was Cameron Justice going for 62 points in a game this past December.

Rozier is due a significant bump when we release our new 2013 player rankings this week.

Two hard after Harrison

Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy point guard Martez Harrison has made some adjustments.

After a slow start to the season, Harrison, a 5-foot-10 lead guard, has picked up his play and was particularly impressive a week ago at the Hoop Hall Classic, where he tossed out eight assists in a game.

Harrison said after some time off, he’s approaching the game differently.

“I’ve been playing pretty well since I came back from Christmas break. I have a different mentality and I’m getting adjusted to league because it’s a pretty tough league.

This time last year, Harrison nearly made a verbal pledge and was going to be a member of the 2012 class. Instead he went the prep school route and he says it’s working out for him.

“It’s worked out pretty good,” Harrison said. “Each and every week there’s different guys calling.”

Fresno State and St. Bonaventure are the main two,” Harrison added.

Zabo has some early offers

Despite some early attention, Kevin Zabo isn’t in a hurry to jump into the recruiting process.

“I’m still taking my time,” Zabo said. “I still have another AAU season to go. I’m just going to take my time with the process.”

Zabo, a junior at Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster, already has a few scholarship offers.

“It’s going pretty good so far,” Zabo said. “I’m planning on taking some visits after the season. Right now I have offers from Illinois, Iowa State, West Virginia and George Washington.”

Zabo also said Marquette and Ohio State has shown interest.
