Brandt-Sims Picking Up Steam
"I wasn't really planning on going to Washington State until the last moment when one of my buddies wanted me really badly to go to Washington State since that's where they go to college, so I went down there," he said.
Brandt-Sims is no stranger to WSU, one of his in-state schools that has been trying to get him to visit, but has not offered.
"It was good to see all the new coaches and I got to meet Leach for the first time," Brandt-Sims said. "I've been down to WSU a few times and I've seen the campus and stuff. I wanted to meet the staff."
Brandt-Sims did not know much about SMU before the Mustangs offered but afterwards he was extremely intrigued and still plans to make it to the Hilltop for a visit just not for junior day next month.
"I'll try to, but if I can't I will try and get down there at least one day to meet some of the coaches if they're there," he said. "I can't make it to the junior day."
What intrigues Brandt-Sims about SMU is the Run-N-Shoot's ability to utilize his blazing speed in many different ways. The versatile athlete is one of the fastest players in the country and that speed in SMU head coach June Jones' offense could be deadly.
"I'd like to go there because I know I can play running back or wide receiver and I'll have a friend down there at quarterback (Kolney Cassel)," he said. "Right now, I am more focused on school and stuff and not recruiting."
With seven offers, including Colorado State, Arizona State, Washington and SMU, before spring ball even starting, Brandt-Sims has a plan to help him decide what school is best for him but not until after the school year.
"I am just waiting until school ends to go check out all of these schools," Brandt-Sims said. "The only other one I'm visiting during the school year is UCLA because it is during our spring break."
With a busy spring schedule that includes the Washington Track and Field State Championships ending the day before spring practice starts, Brandt-Sims is busy going for a track state championship. Brandt-Sims is a star in the 100-meter, 200-meter and even occasionally runs the 400-meter.
