UCLA Set to Start College World Series

UCLA will play in its third College World Series in four years as it faces powerhouse LSU on Sunday...

Omaha, Neb. - UCLA will appear in its second straight College World Series and third in three years when it takes on LSU Sunday, June 16th, at 5:00 p.m. (PT).

The CWS will take place in the TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska, June 15 through the 25/26.

Some quick facts on the UCLA/LSU Match-up:

-- UCLA (44-17) got there by sweeping the Los Angeles Regional and then sweeping Cal State Fullerton at the Super Regional.

-- LSU (57-9) won its three games in the Baton Rouge Regional before sweeping Oklahoma in its Super Regional.

-- UCLA is ranked 15th in the nation, with LSU being ranked 4th.

-- LSU has both a good offense and a very good pitching staff. The Tigers rank 14th in the nation in runs scored, and are third in the nation in ERA. In its five NCAA games, it's averaging 7.4 runs per game and allowed a combined three runs in its last three games.

-- The Bruins have a very good pitching staff, with an ERA ranked 12th in the nation, but are just 140th in the country in runs scored. UCLA, though, averaged 5 runs per game in the tournament.

-- LSU's ace, Aaron Nola (12-0, 1.68 ERA, 117 strikeouts in 118 innings) will reportedly pitch the opener. UCLA's Adam Plutko (8-3, 2.35) is expected to get the start for the Bruins.

-- UCLA, Florida and South Carolina are the only schools in the country to reach the College World Series at least three times in the last four years.
