If things break right, UCLA could have a commit in four of the five state bowl games next weekend in Carson, and the fifth game could have two players they're recruiting.
Here is a look at the CIF Regional games this weekend.
Game of the Week: Bellflower St. John Bosco vs. Corona
Bosco has an embarrassment of riches with 13 players holding Div I offers. Jaleel Wadood,
who committed to UCLA earlier this week, is one of the most dynamic players in the region. Jacob Tuioti-Mariner has gained 20 pounds since last season and has established himself as one of the region's premier defensive lineman,
and UCLA offered last weekend and talented quarterback Josh Rosen is the No. 2
signal caller in the 2015 class and is well over the double digit offer mark.
Centennial boasts some of the top talent in Southern California in the 2014
class on both sides of the ball. On offense is California commit and senior running back Tre Watson, who still has schools like Boise State, UCLA and Utah heavily pursuing him. Centennial also have a weapon in 2014 three-star receiver Barry Ware, a one time UCLA commit, who recently opened his recruitment. Centennial's roster is just as impressive on the defensive side of the ball, headlined by defensive end Austin Maloata,
who visited UCLA last weekend. Three-star senior defensive end Jaylen Johnson is also a force to reckon with, and recently opened up his recruitment.
Bakersfield (Calif.) at San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills
Bakersfield (11-2) and Mission Hills (12-1) will face off Friday night in the
SoCal Regional D-I game. Both teams are relatively evenly matched rankings-wise. Per MaxPreps' California football rankings, Mission Hills is 10th in the state while Bakersfield is 11th. Mission Hills is loaded on both sides of the ball. Leading Mission Hills' offense is 2014 quarterback Connor Wynn and his favorite target, 2014 wide receiver Scott Higgins, who with only one catch in Friday's game, will break Mission Hills' single-season receptions record. The Grizzlies have three players on the San Diego CIF first-team defense for 2013. Led by 2013 CIF Defensive Player of the Year, 2014 four-star linebacker and BYU commit Fred Warner, the Grizzlies defense also includes three-star linebacker Ricky Liuchan, a 2014 Oregon State commit and 2015 four-star defensive back Dechaun Holiday who holds nine offers including ones from UCLA and Nebraska. Bakersfield is on a nine-game win streak, all against D-I opponents and has averaged roughly 36 points per game. The Drillers' offense is led by 2014 quarterback Asauni Rufus. Rufus is a verbal commit to Nevada but will switch to defensive back in college. Alongside Rufus is 2014 wide receiver/defensive back Kevin Hayes who will play DB for Oregon State next fall. Friday's champion will face the winner of the CIF State D-I North Championship in either Loomis (Calif). Del Oro or San Mateo (Calif) Serra Dec. 20 at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.
Newhall Hart vs. West Hills Chaminade
In a rematch of a 55-54 game earlier this season, Hart hosts Chaminade in
the SoCal Regional D-II game. Chaminade has a balanced offense with star power all over. Quarterback Brad Kaaya is a Miami commit and one of the top five signal callers in the region. Donovan Lee is a dynamic play maker at running back, receiver and corner and his sophomore brother Dymond Lee already has an offer from Miami. Junior left tackle Bar Milo is a 2015 Scout 300 member with offers from California, Miami, Nebraska and Washington and safety Jojo McIntosh is a UCLA commit who is looking at other schools now. Hart is led
by 2015 four-star quarterback Brady White, who's had a monster junior season as
well as four-star receiver Trent Irwin.
El Cerrito vs. Atherton Sacred Heart Prep
El Cerrito is
led by UCLA commit Adarius Pickett, who's shining at both running back and
cornerback for El Cerrito and after losing in the CIF-NCS finals a year ago,
they knocked off Marin Catholic last week. This week, they'll take on
Sacred Heart Prep in the NorCal Regional D-III game, with the winner moving on
to the StubHub Center.
Los Angeles View Park vs. Bakersfield Christian
Led by UCLA verbal Cameron Griffin, View Park won their first ever CIF-City
Section title and became just the second school from the City Section to qualify
for the regional bowl game. They'll take on Bakersfield Christian in the
SoCal Regional D-IV game with a spot in the state championship bowl next week on
