UCLA Picks Up Interest in Gordon

Eron Gordon

Eron Gordon, the four-star shooting guard from Indianapolis (Ind.), says that UCLA has recently been picking up its recruitment of him...

Four-star guard Eron Gordon had a very solid year at Indianapolis (Ind.) North Central. The high scoring combo guard put up good numbers, and continued to show why he is one of the more productive players in the Midwest in his class.

During the year, some new high profile schools came in to watch Gordon play. Schools such as Indiana, Butler, and Purdue were all watching as always, but now a few new coaches are coming out and entering into his recruitment.

"Kansas, Kentucky, and UCLA are the main new ones," said Gordon. "Also Gonzaga and a few other ones are starting to come on more like Michigan and Michigan State."

At first the word going around was that Gordon was likely to stay close to home for college, but he says that definitely isn't the case.

"I always have had the mindset to do what is best for me," explained Gordon. "It wasn't about staying close to home. If the right choice is UCLA, that is where I will go to school. If it is to go to a school close to home that is what it will be. It is just about finding the right place."

One school that has really stepped up the aggressiveness on the recruiting front with Gordon is Kansas. The Jayhawks came up to see him this year, and so far Gordon likes what he is hearing from the program.

"I like how Kansas uses their guards," said Gordon. "They give their guards opportunities to showcase their game, and Coach (Bill) Self gets his players to play hard and they do a good job of developing their talent."

Also UCLA, which has a staff with deep ties to the Hoosier State, is beginning to pick up their recruitment of the four-star prospect.

"I haven't talked to them a ton yet, but I am hoping to visit maybe when I am in L.A. and get more familiar with them," noted Gordon. "Right now we are just beginning to build a relationship."

With two brothers who have worn an Indiana uniform, the Hoosiers have long been linked to Gordon, and he says they remain high on his list.

"They are still pretty high on my list," said Gordon of Indiana. "This year I was just trying to watch and enjoy them. It was fun watching my brother play there and nothing has changed. They are still high on my list."

For now there is no specific timeframe for a commitment from Gordon, and he is just gaining as much information as possible while working hard to improve his game.
