Houston to Cut List Soon
"USC, UCLA, Florida, Florida State, Oregon, Miami, and Notre Dame are obvious ones that will make the list," Houston said. "After I make the cut, I'm just going to talk to the 13 or 14 coaches and get down to the real information I need to know: the type of school it is, the type of program they want to be, and how they're going to use me. Things like that."
The five-star linebacker, who showed up in a UCLA visor at the B2G Elite Camp in Thousand Oaks this weekend (even though he's not participating due to injury), was planning on making a recent trip to Notre Dame, but the timing of the visit didn't work out. As of now, he has no set plans to visit non-local schools, although there will surely be more visits this summer.
"There is no plan for the rest of the summer, I'm just playing it by ear," Houston said. "I know I'll be out at both the USC and UCLA camps next week, but I won't be participating. I just want to go out and see my former teammates who are starting up at both schools, and hang out at the camps."
As for official visits, Houston already knows where he'll take three of them.
"Florida State, Oregon, and Oklahoma will get three of the visits," Houston said. "I don't know where I want to take my last two. If I don't take my last two elsewhere, I'll probably take them to UCLA and USC (but) I can go there any day I want to."
The Bruins and the Trojans have both been recruiting Houston hard, with the Bruins trying to get the linebacker and his family on campus to meet the coaching staff.
"They just keep telling me to bring the family down," Houston said. "I'll definitely be out there for their camp next week. They've been recruiting me hard."
Oklahoma making its way into the list of officials is a bit of a change for Houston, who said that the school's ability to snag high-level California talent the last few years has turned his head a bit.
"Just seeing how many people they're recruiting and signing, Joe Mixon being one of them," Houston said. "I just want to see how hyped it is out there, and what's getting so many incredible athletes out there. They come out here and recruit California a lot. More schools should — we have good athletes here. We might be a little skinnier, but we're just as fast."
As for a school he'd like to get to know better, Houston's attire (the linebacker was sporting an Oregon sweatshirt) gave a pretty clear indication.
"I really want to go up to Oregon," Houston said. "They've been recruiting me, but I haven't really talked too much to the coaches. I want to see what Oregon is all about, and see what the hype is out there."
