UCLA Doing Well With James

Andre James

2015 four-star Herriman (Utah) offensive tackle Andre James visited UCLA unofficially this weekend and it sounds as if the Bruins are in a good spot...

It sounds like, right now, UCLA is going be tough to beat for Herriman (Utah) offensive lineman Andre James.

The four-star tackle was in Los Angeles (Calif.) over the weekend to attend both USC and UCLA's linemen camps.

James, 6-foot-4 265-pounds, started the weekend at USC. The Trojans camps are closed to the public and media, but a source inside camp tells Scout that James went full-throttle during the drills.

"[Offensive line] Coach [Tim] Drevno was really pushing for me to participate yesterday, so I kind of just gave into that," James said.

He spent most of his time with USC tight ends coach Marques Tuiasosopo and Drevno, both of whom have been leading his recruitment.

"[They tell me] just that we're building something here," James explained. "They say 'You can start really soon'. So they mostly say they're building stuff."

James admits that the feeling he gets from USC and UCLA is completely different. Right now, it seems the Bruins are on the leading side of the difference.

"They're just two totally different feelings," he said. "Not even good or bad, just two totally different feelings."

Asked if UCLA would be tough to be beat in his recruitment, James responded, "Probably. I'd say [USC] has some making up to do, they haven't been recruiting me as long.

"UCLA was the second school who ever offered me, so I have had a great relationship with UCLA for a very long time."

James did not participate the Bruins camp Sunday, but spent most his time on the field hanging around coach Jim Mora and offensive line coach Adrian Klemm.

He says UCLA quarterbacks coach Taylor Mazzone remains a standout in his recruitment.

"He's definitely still one of my favorite recruiters," said James. "I love the guy, so he's definitely one of my favorite recruiters."

James has not set any official visit dates. He is leaving Los Angeles on Sunday evening and says he'll begin to look at his calendar when he gets home.

"I definitely want to make it out to games in the season, so we'll see," he said. "So probably the Fresno State game for USC and the Tennessee game for Oklahoma.

"That's what I've kind of looked at so far."

Next on James' calendar is The Opening from July 7-10 in Beaverton (Ore.).
