Octeus Will Transfer to UCLA
"Once I got the opportunity to visit UCLA and meet the players, it was an easy decision for me," Octeus said. "The Brand and history that UCLA has is something that every kid dreams about being a part of."
Octeus, who was actually on UCLA's campus Thursday when he verbally committed, averaged 13.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for Colorado State last year, and he could provide some depth at both guard spots next season at UCLA. Octeus said that the coaching staff is bringing him in primarily as a point guard.
"The relationship that I have built with the coaching staff throughout this process has been great," Octeus said. "Coach Alford is a proven winner along with his outstanding staff."
Octeus will play just one year for the Bruins under the graduate transfer rules, but that one year could help to mitigate the losses of Jordan Adams, Kyle Anderson, and Zach LaVine, who all declared for the NBA Draft and were selected in the first round.
Octeus joins a backcourt that includes Bryce Alford, Norman Powell, Isaac Hamilton, and Noah Allen. Octeus hopes to compete with Alford and Hamilton for the starting point guard spot, and could provide depth at all three backcourt positions.
In addition to Octeus, UCLA is bringing in a star-studded class of bigs this year, with Kevon Looney, Thomas Welsh, Jonah Bolden, and Gyorgy Goloman.
Octeus hopes to know within the week when he'll arrive on campus.
