DeSoto (Texas) High
SPARQ Testing Results ('13)
Junior Stats: English had a big junior season in 2013, finishing with 80 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, six sacks, and seven forced fumbles as DeSoto reached the state semifinals.
Scouting Report: English is one of the premier defensive linemen in the Dallas area. He is a disruptive force up front. He gets off the ball quickly and plays with an energy that can really be appreciated for a defensive tackle. It does not show through on a highlight tape, but there are no plays off, a trait that is not as often found in the defensive trenches. He is not as big or tall as some of the more highly-ranked DTs, but will make as many or more plays as any of them.
English has a motor that does not quit. He plays hard snap to snap and even at his size was athletic enough to play some defensive end in DeSoto's schemes before an injury forced the starter at DT out for the year in the second game of the season.
English is not going to rate as a high a star value as others, but every coach that prepares for DeSoto prepares for English, so he is a difference maker in that regard.
This is a good addition from a talent perspective, most especially in how it relates to the schemes that UCLA has pitched him. He can plug the gap, and will make a lot of plays and supply a lot of pressure as an inside guy. He will pester and bother offensive linemen. UCLA's opponents will hate him.
