Malik Henry Trims It to Four

Malik Henry Trims It to Four

Westlake Village (Calif.) Westlake 2016 quarterback Malik Henry has another year and half before he can sign anywhere but he narrowed his college choices to four on Thursday...

Malik Henry is one of the top players in the '16 class, an early 5-star recruit and the No. 2 QB in the country. He's a dual threat quarterback who can beat you with his arm or his legs and has a very nice upside to him.

On the recruiting front, Henry landed scholarship offers from all over the country but has narrowed his choices down to a final four. The four to make the cut are Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and UCLA. Henry broke down what he likes about each of his finalist.

Florida State: "I have a great relationship with Coach Brewster and loved my visit there. I like the area, the facilities and the opportunity to play for a coach like Coach Fisher would be an incredible opportunity.

"He really knows what he's doing and I fit in really well in that offense. Florida State runs a lot of shotgun and allows the quarterback to make reads and throw from the pocket or take off when needed. They also produce a lot of great quarterbacks and that's big for me."

Notre Dame: "I really like Matt LaFleur, the QB coach, a lot. He came over from the Redskins and has an NFL background. He worked with RG3 (Robert Griffin) and sees a lot of the same things in me. I went to the Irish Invasion camp and just fell in love with the place.

"Notre Dame is a small school and I'm very comfortable there. It's a great academic school as well as football and you can just feel the tradition walking around the campus. I like their offense a lot as well and I think it really fits my skill set well."

Ohio State: "Urban Meyer is a great coach and I really like their whole coaching staff a lot. I like Coach Herman a lot and his track record for producing quality quarterbacks and high powered offenses is about as good as you'll see.

"I had a great visit there and really liked the facilities. Braxton Miller is one of my favorite quarterbacks to watch and the coaches have compared me to him and said they would like to use me in the same way. Just like with the other schools, the offense really fits me too, they use a dual threat quarterback and that's what I do."

UCLA: "UCLA is the hometown school and I've always followed them. I talk to the Mazzoone's, Taylor and Noel, all the time and we have a great relationship. I really love being up there on campus, it's a beautiful place and I have a great comfort level there.

"Location won't play much of a factor for me but it would be a nice added bonus to be able to play in front of my friends and family. Their offense is very similar to what we do at Westlake, even the formations are similar. Coach Mora has really turned the program around and I like the direction they're going in right now."

Despite the early cut to his list, Henry said he's not close to making his decision.

"I just wanted to narrow it down to make things easier on me," Henry said. "I'm going to focus on my season now and not worry as much about recruiting. After our season is over, that's when I'll focus on where the best place for me is.

"I've already visited all of these schools but I do want to go check them out again and see a game. I think by next spring or early summer I'll be ready to make my decision but I don't have a leader right now. Everyone is even and I'm open to all of these schools. I just want to watch them play and then see where I fit in best."
