VIDEO: Young Talks Adjustments

Freshman inside linebacker Kenny Young talks about his adjustment from high school, what the biggest challenge has been so far, and whether he thinks he'll play this year...

Kenny Young:

On the first days of camp:
They're going real good. We have a good offense and a great quarterback in Brett Hundley. I'm just out here competing with the rest of my teammates.

On his biggest adjustment:
Time management and getting myself into the playbook. Learning from the guys in the game and that's one of the ways I learn.

On Jeff Ulbrich:
Coach Brick is a coach but he's also a father figure. He's always there when I need him. When my parents are not there. He's a student of the game, played in the big league, the things I have, I want to get better at.

On taking on a leadership role:
Coach Brick has us rolling so I have to talk sometimes. That's my role as a Mike, I have to start something special early.

On if he's surprised with his success so far:
I could do better. It's the small things you have to do to become great.

On his size:
6-2, 230. I don't want to be fat, but if I can move at 230, I'll be fine.

On being in the film room all summer:
Every day I was in the film room, just learning. I had nothing else to do. I don't mess with girls or anything. I'm here for football, that's what I'm here for. I play football for a reason. When you go in the playbook, you pick up different things. I think we can be special.

On how much different things are from his high school:
It's not so much different. It may be called different things, but it's not real different. I'm so thankful to have him.

On picking UCLA over the SEC:
All those SEC offers, they can stay where it's at, I'm here at UCLA, being the best I can be. It's lovely here, I don't think I'll ever go home. Nah, I'm just kidding.

On picking things up from Myles Jack and Eric Kendricks:
What I do now, I get it from them. Stay in the playbook, knowing nothing. Some of the things they like about me and respect about me.
