5-Star Texan Sets Commitment Date

2015 OLB Malik Jefferson

The No. 1 player in the Lone Star State's 2015 class has released a commitment date.

Malik Jefferson is Scout.com's No. 1 player in Texas, the No. 1 outside linebacker in the nation, and the No. 2 overall prospect in the Scout 300. Now we know when Jeffferson will make his commitment.

Jefferson announced via Twitter on Monday evening that he will commit Dec. 19.

That date is expected to be Jefferson's final day at Poteet High School in Mesquite, Texas, before he enrolls for the spring semester at the college of his choosing. Jefferson first told the news of his decision on a set commitment date earlier Monday evening to the Dallas Morning News.

Jefferson possesses a long list of offers, including all the big in-state schools and many more high-major programs from across the country.

The 6-foot-2 1/2, 215-pound outside linebacker recently listed UCLA, Stanford, and Ohio State, all of which have offered him, as three official visits that he plans to make. Recruits can take up to five official visits.

Jefferson had 92 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, seven sacks, five forced fumbles, and four blocked kicks to earn his district's Defensive MVP award and honorable mention all-state recognition.

Mesquite Poteet enters the 2014 season following a 12-2 campaign a year ago that ended in the state quarterfinals. Poteet also has four-star outside linebacker DeAndre McNeal, who has more than 20 offers and recently said three of his official visits will be Miami, UCLA, and Oklahoma State.
