A look at the latest news and notes from out West in this week's notebook...

Kirk Tabs Final Six

His first offer came nearly three years ago when he just finished his freshman season at Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro, coming from UCLA in December of 2011.

That offer led to 36 more offers for Christian Kirk, a four-star receiver and the top prospect in Arizona.

From there, Kirk trimmed the list to a top ten and now, the West's top receiver prospect has whittled his list down to six.

Kirk announced late last week his final six, in no order, of Arizona State, Auburn, Ohio State, Texas A&M, UCLA and USC.

He said previously he will likely just visit nearby Arizona State unofficially, which will allow him to take official visits to Auburn, Ohio State, Texas A&M, UCLA and USC, all which he's previously visited unofficially.

Kirk talked about his final six with Scout, and why each school made the cut.

Henry Names Early Final Four

Westlake (Calif.) 2016 five-star quarterback Malik Henry has offers from all over the country as he gets ready to start his junior season.

But it was early enough for Henry to start to cut his list, and he named a top four.

Henry's final four included Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and UCLA.

He broke down his final four to Scout, but said it will still be a while before he makes his decision.

Earlier this week, Henry announced that he would be playing in the 2016 UnderArmour All-America Game in Florida.

Washington Lands Elite 2016 Prospect

Washington got a big jump in the 2016 class by getting a commitment from Sammamish (Wash.) Eastside Catholic running back Brandon Wellington.

The four-star Wellington is a versatile prospect who was the RB MVP at the Oregon NFTC.

But he's also a very talented safety who could grow into a linebacker.

Wellington was offered by the Huskies last summer when Steve Sarkisian was still their head coach and Chris Petersen and his staff quickly reiterated that offer to Wellington.

  • Upland (Calif.) safety Jeff Farrar, who signed with Virginia in February, didn't get admitted into UVa and will instead play at Washington State, having signed a financial aid agreement with the Cougars.  Washington State has two verbals in the 2015 class who played with Farrar at Upland, fellow safety Kameron Powell and quarterback Tyler Hilinski.
