Alize Jones is one of the nation's top prospects and the No. 2 tight end in the nation. At 6-5, 225 pounds, he has an ideal frame and is one of the more athletic tight ends to come out of the West region in years.
In Gorman's season opening win against Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy Prep, Jones caught four balls for 125 yard and one touchdown, an 80 yard catch and run that showed off his incredible top end speed for such a big receiver.
Against Servite last Friday, Jones only played in the 1st half due to a knee injury. Here was our evaluation of the athlete following the game;
"Jones only played in the 1st half due to a knee injury but told us after the game it was a swollen bursa sac and he should be fine in a week or so. Physically, Jones looks great, with a college body right now. He's all of 6-5, 225 pounds and can move. He was only targeted once on offense but applied nice pressure on the pass rush and forced an interception late in the 1st half chasing down Travis Waller from behind and it's worth noting, Waller can run like a deer."
Despite not being able to finish out the game, Jones was in good spirits afterwards.
"Man I love my teammates," Jones said Friday night. "We're like a big family, I've never been on a team that was this tight before. When I went down, they all came up to me and said they were going to win it for me and that's what they did. I'm so proud of them and proud to be on this team. To beat a quality team like Servite, this is a big time win for our program.
"I know we can get better. We had way too many penalties tonight and if we cut those down and be more disciplined, we'll be tough to beat. For me personally, I have a lot to work on to get better. I'm never satisfied and have a long way to go but II like where our team is at and I don't see any reason why we can't go undefeated."
On the recruiting front, Jones gave an early commitment to UCLA and told us at The Opening in July he was locked in and wouldn't take any official visits. A month ago, the tight end said he would indeed take some visits.
"I'm still solid with UCLA and I feel real good about them," Jones said. "I'm going to take a couple of visits but Notre Dame is the only school I know right now. The visits are more of having a backup plan for me, like a security blanket in case something happens with the coaching staff but I love UCLA and that's where I plan to go.
"I'm going to try and get down there for the Oregon game but for sure I'll be there for the USC game. It's a big family for me at UCLA and I fit in well there. I'm real comfortable every time I go down there and my family has always liked UCLA so there's a lot of good things happening over there right now."
