Ben Howland has yet to coach his first game at UCLA
, but he's already having a major impact on the Bruin program. Howland secured commitments from Jordan Farmar
and Arron Afflalo
shortly after taking the job at UCLA and now he's landed a commitment from one of the top young prospects in the country.
Taylor King, 6-6 FR PF/SF Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, hasn't entered high school yet, but he's decided that he'll enroll at UCLA in 2007. King, who wowed scouts and coaches last month at various camps and tournaments, committed to Howland and UCLA earlier today.
King, a very skilled lefty with a great frame and deep range on his shot, projects as a forward down the road. The only question is whether he'll grow another inch or two, and play power forward, or stay at about the same size and end up a three man. Either way, he should be one of the elite players in the class of 2007.
Taylor King, a 6-6 incoming 9th grader from Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, drew raves from college coaches with his performance this past month at ABCD, the Big Time and the Best of Summer. But King won't be hearing from those coaches over the next four years, as he committed to UCLA this morning...
An early commitment...
