Boyd Sets Visits, Three Faves

Jerome Boyd

The safety prospect from Dorsey High, Jerome Boyd, could be considered among the best at his position in the west. Wtih his season over, he's now concentrating on recruiting and setting up official visits. He says he has three favorites...

After a heartbreaking loss in the City Section semifinals, the focus for Dorsey safety Jerome Boyd (6-2, 185) has now shifted toward recruiting.

"It was a tough game man," Boyd said. " I was pretty down all weekend, but I'm getting over it. Now I'm going to start taking my trips."

Boyd is getting his visits started this weekend when he visits Washington, along with Dorsey teammate, defensive lineman Jasper Henry. "This will be my first trip, so it should be fun. Washington has been recruiting me hard."

Boyd will then wait a few weeks and visit Oregon the 9th-11th of January. The Ducks have a couple of former Dorsey players on the roster, something Boyd likes.

Then he will finalize plans for a trip to UCLA.

"Coach (Eric) Bieniemy is recruiting me at UCLA. I went to some of their games this year. It's close to home," said Boyd. "I don't have the date set up for UCLA, but I'll probably visit in January."

While Boyd said he is wide open and didn't hint at a favorite, he indicated that UCLA, Washington and Oregon are likely his top three. He is also considering San Diego State and Arizona, looking at the Wildcats now with Mike Stoops in charge in Tucson. Another school who has recently gotten in the mix is Kansas State, who just called and made their first pitch.

"I'm wide open with everyone right now. I'll go anywhere I feel is right. I want to take all my trips, then I'll decide around signing day, but if somewhere is right, I could commit then. But I want to take all five trips if I can."

His father, who played in the NFL, went to Oregon State, but Boyd says he doesn't really have any interest in the Beavers.

With Boyd and Henry visiting Washington together this weekend, the two have talked about playing in college together. "Yeah, we've talked about it. It would be pretty cool to play in college together," said Boyd.

Boyd has recently qualified per NCAA standards. Recommended Stories
