The family ties to BYU would seem to make Provo (Utah) Timpview offensive tackle Matt Reynolds (6-5, 270) a shoe-in to commit to the Cougars, but Reynolds wants to squelch that theory.
"There is a little pressure to go there from the people around here, and my parents haven't done anything to put the pressure on me. They haven't put it on me at all," said Reynolds.
Though his dad Lance is a longtime Cougar assistant coach (22 years at BYU), Matt is looking at a host of other schools, including BYU's in-state rival Utah, as well as Cal, Arizona, Northwestern and UCLA.
"All the schools are real close, so I don't really have a top five," said Reynolds. "I've got nine official offers, and I'm trying to narrow it down to the schools I am serious about."
Reynolds' summer was active enough to keep him from participating in the summer camps, and caused him to miss one he had attended regularly growing up.
"I really wanted to try and get to the Nike Camp, and I wanted to go to the BYU Camp, because I go there every year, but I was pretty busy this summer with basketball camp and vacations with the family."
The absence from camps, though, has done nothing to hurt Reynolds' national status, as he is considered one of the top 10 offensive tackles in the country.
Reynolds is being recruited by UCLA offensive line coach Tom Cable, and Reynolds had good stuff to say about him. He said, "I like Coach Cable. He is a real good guy, and knows his stuff."
In his search for college, Reynolds said four factors really stand out to him.
Reynolds said, "The location is important, and then the staff and how they are doing. Then the tradition and then the academics. Those are what will stand out to me."
Reynolds is in no rush to make a decision, and will most likely hold off until Timpview's season is done. "I'll decide after the season, but I'll do it before Signing Day."
Also playing defense for Timpview, Reynolds has four sacks in leading Timpview to a quick 3-0 start.
Reynolds has a 3.7 GPA and scored a 24 on his ACT, qualifying him for college.
