With two of his three scheduled official visits taken, Colorado Springs (Colo.) Doherty’s Shaun Dewitty (6-2, 190), says that the two schools he’s visited are his current favorites.
“UCLA and Arizona State are my leaders,” Dewitty said. “I’m still going to take my trip to Kansas State next weekend, but really, ASU and UCLA have a lot to offer.”
Dewitty took his official trip to UCLA the first weekend in December and was hosted on his trip by freshman safety Chris Horton.
“It was a real cool trip,” said Dewitty. “I liked the players at UCLA and saw a lot of good things there.”
Dewitty visited Arizona State the following weekend, and was set to make it three weekends in a row with a trip to Kansas State, but moved it until mid-January. “I will take my trip to Kansas State and then I’ll probably decide after that,” said Dewitty.
Last summer, Dewitty attended UCLA’s Four-Day Camp, and spent time working with the defensive backs, while also getting a chance to check out the campus.
“Coach (Jon) Embree is recruiting me,” said Dewitty. “I like Coach Embree a lot and remembered him from when he was at Colorado.”
UCLA had their in-home with Dewitty last month, as did Arizona State, and both put the full-court press on. “UCLA wants to bring me in as an athlete, and decide later where I’d play. Arizona State wants me as a running back. Both are good options.”
This year, Dewitty had a monstrous senior year, rushing for nearly 2,200 yards and 38 touchdowns for Cherry Creek. He was named the Colorado Springs Player of the Year and a first-team all-state selection.
He has a 3.0 GPA and will take the SAT at a later date.
