The final visit is set for Colorado Springs (Colo.) Doherty’s Shaun Dewitty (6-2, 190), with the Colorado Springs Player of the Year set to go to the Little Apple this weekend when he visits Kansas State.
“After this weekend and after Kansas State, I should know enough to make my decision,” Dewitty said. “I want to put the three together then I’ll decide.”
The three he’s referring to are Kansas State, UCLA and Arizona State.
Dewitty took his official trip to UCLA the first weekend in December and was hosted on his trip by freshman safety Chris Horton. “I had a good trip to UCLA. It was better than when I went to the camp, because I got to see more of the campus and the area,” said Dewitty.
He visited Arizona State the following weekend, and said the trip to Tempe also went well. “I enjoyed Arizona State too. The coaches answered some questions I had about going there. They said I could play running back if that’s what I want,” said Dewitty.
UCLA and Kansas State are recruiting him as an athlete.
Dewitty attended UCLA’s Four-Day Camp where he worked with coach Gary DeLoach and the defensive backs. “Coach (Jon) Embree is recruiting me,” said Dewitty. “I like Coach Embree a lot. And I like Coach DeLoach a lot too. He’s a good DB coach.”
Both ASU and UCLA had their in-homes in December with Dewitty, and Kansas State had theirs in the early part of this month.
“It’s a tough decision because I like all the coaches. I’ll decide though when I’m done this weekend, when I feel comfortable,” said Dewitty.
Dewitty had a standout senior season, as a tailback rushing for almost 2,200 yards and 38 touchdowns for Doherty. Aside from being named the Colorado Springs Player of the Year, he was a first-team all-State selection.
