Kia Still Thinking Over Options

Micah Kia

Micah Kia, the 6-5, 305-pounder from Hawaii who is the #28-ranked OL in the country, is debating on taking a fifth and final trip or deciding on his college choice by the second week of Janaury.

After returning to Hawaii following a whirlwind tour of three colleges, Mililani (Hawaii) tackle Micah Kia (6-5, 305) had hoped to make a decision by Christmas.

However, Kia hasn't decided on a college and will likely not make a decision until January.

"I'm hoping to decide by the second week of January," said Kia. "I am not sure if I'm going to take another official trip. I may take one, or I may go ahead and decide."

The last official visit, should it be taken, will come from either Washington or Oregon, with Hawaii an outside contender for it.

"I'll decide soon if I am going to take another trip," said Kia.

He had taken an official visit to Oregon State back in November, then set off for a three school, seven day trip that started at Tennessee and ended at UCLA with a visit to Oklahoma in the middle.

"It was a good trip to the mainland for me. I got to spend some time with family and see three different schools. Each school had good things about it," said Kia.

He was hosted by fellow Hawaii native Jesse Mahelona while at Tennessee then by Shannon Tevaga when he tripped to UCLA.

"I felt comfortable at each school I've visited. UCLA was a really good trip. I got to spend time with Coach (Tom) Cable and Coach (Karl) Dorrell and with a lot of the offensive lineman," said Kia. "It's a nice campus and I really enjoyed visiting it. They have a good academic system there."

Kia said each of the four schools he has visited are even, and that no real leader has emerged.

Academically, Kia holds a 3.8 GPA and has a qualifying SAT by the NCAA Clearinghouse standards.
