Sophomore linebacker John Hale
and defensive tackle Jess Ward
were suspended from the team for the season opener, the game against Utah
Hale and Ward pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault charges in July, stemming from an incident last winter.
Hale is expected to be the starting strongside tackle this season, so without him, Korey Bosworth, Fred Holmes or possible Aaron Whittington could start in his place against Utah.
-- Senior wide receiver Joe Cowan injured his knee toward the end of practice Tuesday and was supposed to undergo an MRI. Dorrell said after practice he didn't think the injury was serious but the MRI was precautionary.
-- Dorrell commented that junior cornerback Rodney Van was the leader for the one open cornerback position in the secondary.
