Los Angeles (Calif.) Verbum Dei defensive end/linebacker Akeem Ayers (6-3.5, 220) took his official visit to UCLA this past weekend, and the four-star commit to the Bruins enjoyed his time.

"It was a real cool trip over there," said Ayers. "Kevin Brown was my host. I talked to all of the commits and we're looking forward to playing together."

Ayers said he is solid to UCLA and will sign with them in February, but that he is likely going to take a trip to Cal in January.

"I'm going to do one last visit to Cal," said Ayers. "I don't know what weekend yet though."

Ayers said his visit to UCLA gave him the opportunity to talk with the defensive coaches about how they plan to utilize him in their defense.

"They told me I have a chance to come in and play, depending on how I go over the summer," said Ayers. "They plan is for me to play. They want me as a linebacker but that I can also play a rush end and get after the quarterback."

Ayers spent most of his time with linebacker coach Chuck Bullough and defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker.

"I like Coach Bullogh and Coach Walker a lot and they said they're expecting a lot from me, so be ready," said Ayers.

So with his visit to Cal, does that mean he's wavering on his commitment?

"No, I'm going to UCLA, I just want to be able to take one more visit just so I can have something to compare UCLA to," said Ayers.

Next month, Ayers will play in the East Meets West All-American Game in Orlando where his future teammate Nate Chandler will also be playing as well as current teammate Reggie Dunn.

"We leave on January 2nd to go down there and it will be fun," said Ayers.

The Defensive MVP of the Camino Real League, Ayers' return from a major finger injury that required surgery was a huge factor in their late season pushed that turned a 3-4 start into a 10-4 finish that included the CIF Mid-Valley Championship.
