Practice Notes and Dorrell Video

The team had an improved practice Wednesday from Tuesday, with the offense making some plays, with one circus catch by a young wide receiver being the highlight. A few prominent players are still sitting on the sideline and are questionable for Saturday's scrimmage, according to Karl Dorrell...

Osaar Rasshan suffered a mild concussion and is still being kept out of practice.

Starting offensive guard Shannon Tevaga sat out most of practice today, his shoulder sore from the dye he had injected for the MRI the day before. Head Coach Karl Dorrell said Tevaga has a partially torn labrum, but he's played with it for a year.

Kevin Brown sat out the scrimmages, but went through individual drills. Chase Moline is the first defensive tackle off the bench.

Center Chris Joseph sat out with a sore hip flexor, but it isn't supposed to be serious.

Freshman safety Glenn Love didn't practice.

Today offense bounced back a bit from its very poor showing Tuesday. The O didn't have a spectacular showing but it was better than the previous day.

Quarterback Ben Olson threw the ball relatively sharply. The morning's 11-on-11 was highlighted by two 6-yard touchdown runs, one by Kahlil Bell and another by Chris Markey. The highlight play of the day was a post thrown by Patrick Cowan to Terrence Austin where Austin, being covered well by Trey Brown, tipped the ball to himself and made a diving catch.

Josh Edwards, the linebacker who transferred from UC Davis, is one of the best athletes among the linebackers, and probably the fastest. What's holding him back right now is knowing the defense and his assignments.

It appears walk-on freshman Ben Bruneau was working with the running backs today. He does physically look more like a running back, and it could be a move as a reaction to the injuries at tailback.

Safety Christian Ramirez has quietly had a good camp. Today he blocked a punt.

Place-kicker Kai Forbath is struggling a bit, especially from 45+ yards out.

The punt returner candidates are Terrence Austin, Ryan Graves, Marcus Everett, Alterraun Verner and Courtney Viney.

The kick returner candidates are Kahlil Bell, Ryen Carew, Bret Lockett, Matt Slater, Joe Cowan, Michael Norris and Ben Bruneau.

Also, if you are using Windows Media Player 11, it is a beta, and fraught with problems. You might want to try to re-install Internet Explorer, and if that doesn’t work, re-install Windows Media Player 11.

Also, some subscribers have downloaded Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 2 to replace Service Pack 1 and that enabled them to watch Scout.com video content.

If you’re a Mac User, you have two options:

1) If you are running OS X, have the new Flip4Mac plug-in installed, and have Windows Media Player 9 for OS X installed, you must do the following: Open System Preferences, click on the Flip4Mac green icon down in the "Other" section of System Preferences, click on the "Plug In" tab and UNCHECK the "Use Flip4Mac WMV Internet plug in". Close Safari if it is open. Launch Safari again and try the video again. It should fail with a "Safari can't display content on this page" error offering to try to view it with WMP for OS X. Click OK and WMP should launch and successfully play the video.

2) Scout has now added a link to the Media Player popup window that will only display to Mac users. It will enable Mac users to download the video to their hard drives. It will say: "Click here to watch Video" above the existing "Close this window" link. Mac users that have been having video trouble can now click the link and play the video. Your computer might prompt you after you click the link to watch the video, finding the program it needs to play the video on your computer.
