At the rate that commitments are flying out West, February 6th, 2008, could be a slow news day. Of the top 30 players in the region, 20 have already given verbals in the latest version of the Scout.com West 150. UCLA has 21 of its commitments on the list...

Surprisingly, though, Portland (Ore.) Lincoln defensive end Ethan Johnson is the only player who’s ranked as the top prospect in his respective state to have made a commitment, having verballed to Notre Dame.

That leaves California (Ventura St. Bonaventure RB Darrell Scott), Hawaii (Kaneohe Castle DT Solomon Koehler), Nevada (Las Vegas Western DT Lawrence Guy), Utah (Salt Lake City Cottonwood LB Lynn Katoa) and Washington (Lakewood Lakes DE Kavario Middleton) all waiting for their top prospects to commit.

Still, several schools have benefited from the early commitments, with UCLA having 21 commitments in the West 150, USC boasting 11 commits, Washington having nine, Stanford with six, California and Arizona with five and BYU, Oregon and Notre Dame with four.

Making the biggest moves in the rankings as we head into the fall is Honolulu (Hawaii) Pac-5 defensive end Aaron Tipoti, who moved to #33, Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw cornerback Clint Floyd and Fresno (Calif.) Hoover linebacker Mychal Kendricks, who all moved into the rankings for the first time.
