The team practiced in “light bulbs” Monday morning, which is helmets, shoulder pads and shorts. As Head Coach Karl Dorrell talks about in the post-practice interview linked below, senior defensive tackle Brigham Harwell suffered a bruised thigh in this morning’s practice. It happened during a field goal drill, where he was left rolling on the ground. He went to the training shed, came back out and tried to practice, but limped. He attempted to participate in the 11-on-11 for a couple of reps, but then called it quits for the day. When Dorrell asked him out he was as he was walking off the practice field, Harwell held up his hand and waved it back and forth to indicate mediocre. Defensive end Chinonso Anyanwu had a boot on his left ankle from an injury suffered in Saturday’s scrimmage. Anyanwu’s injury is now significant since he is second string at his position behind Bruce Davis. Running back Chane Moline is still out with a cast on his wrist. Fullback Michael Pitre is still out, as is his back-up, Trevor Therior. Freshman safety Glenn Love isn’t practicing due to the shoulder injury and surgery he had in the off-season. Without Harwell, both Chase Moline and Jess Ward switched off filling in for him with the 1s. As Dorrell said in the video, the practice wasn’t a great one. There were plenty of mistakes and flubs on both sides of the ball – fumbles, dropped passes and missed assignments. Quarterback Ben Olson looked fairly sharp early on in a 7-on-7, but tapered off toward the end of practice. He did complete a nice throw to tight end Logan Paulsen, who snagged it over linebacker Reggie Carter, with Carter committing too early on his break. Terrence Austin also caught a ball down the sideline, out-running cornerback Rodney Van. The offense did some different things – at least different than what you saw in the scrimmage Saturday, but nothing beyond what you might have seen in any other practice yet this fall. The practice was a short one, and it ended on two blocked field goal attempts from about 37 yards by Kai Forbath. One of them was blocked by Van coming from the edge.
