UCLA Now Player for TE/DE

Craig Stevens

UCLA has become a major player for tight end/defensive end Craig Stevens of Palos Verdes Peninsula. What made the major change in his recruitment?

Craig Stevens, 6-4, 225, 4.75, Rolling Hills (Calif.) Palos Verdes Peninsula, spoke to UCLA defensive line coach, Don Johnson, last Wednesday and was told that UCLA was offering him a football scholarship. "We were all real excited. The written offer and scholarship information came in the mail on Friday," Stevens said.

Stevens has had a very good senior year and has probably elevated himself to being one of the best tight end prospects on the West Coast this year. He has impressive size and speed and has look solid this season at defensive end as well.

Asked if he was going to officially visit UCLA, he said, "Probably, I am thinking about it." Then he stated: "Yeah, definitely." Stevens said that this certainly puts UCLA high onto his list of schools. "I'm really excited about this one. We've always liked UCLA, me and my family." Considering that he is down to three schools, the hometown university may have the edge.

Stevens is hearing regularly from Cal and Arizona as well. "I'm tentatively scheduled to visit Berkeley on November 23, but that may change depending how far we go in the playoffs." Palos Verdes (5-4) needs a victory Friday in its final regular season game against Inglewood to tie for second in league and secure a playoff spot.

With school and football, he hasn't had a lot of time to concentrate on recruiting, but it looks like it may be time to pull things together. "I haven't decided exactly what I want to do, but yeah I'm thinking definitely about visiting Arizona and UCLA before I make a decision. I'm really looking forward to finding out more about these schools. I really just have to sit down and get organized. I haven't really been doing much about recruiting yet. Now I have to get organized and go from there."

Stevens is a very good student and is fully qualified.
