Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) Los Osos quarterback Richard Brehaut verbally committed to UCLA Monday.
Brehaut, who is 6-3 and 205 pounds, chose the Bruins over Washington, Colorado, Nebraska, Arizona, Arizona State and others.
"Coach (Norm) Chow offered me over the phone and I committed on the spot," Brehaut said. "It was such a great opportunity. UCLA is a great school and football program with great academics."
Head Coach Rick Neuheisel was able to attend the Steve Clarkson Quarterbacks Camp in Santa Barbara this weekend because his own son participated. It then enabled Neuheisel to watch Brehaut perform, and motivated the offer.
"I was excited," Brehaut said. "My family is really excited. I'm planning on going up to UCLA this week and talk to Coach Neuheisel and Coach Chow some more."
Why did he commit on the spot? "The opportunity was too good," Brehaut said. "I was also starting to get tired of recruiting so it was a relief. It was good timing because I was planning to go visit some other schools this week but when UCLA offered I knew that's where I wanted to go."
Brehaut said his plan is to now attend UCLA's one-day and three-day camps in June and he's also "looking forward to getting close to the other commits."
Brehaut, the #22-ranked quarterback in the nationa, threw for 2,348 yards and 22 touchdowns against eight picks and completed 65% of his passes He rushed for 528 yards and five touchdowns.
Academically, Brehaut is carrying a 3.6 GPA and scored a 1640 on the SAT.
