Washington and UCLA Heat Up

Mark Washington

The relationship between UCLA and the linebacker prospect from Long Beach Poly, Mark Washington, is heating up. Washington spent some time with UCLA coaches yesterday. Here is all the info on whether he's been offered and whether he'll take an official visit to UCLA...

Mark Washington, 6-2, 240, 4.56, Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, had the opportunity on Wednesday afternoon to sit down with UCLA coaches Karl Dorrell, Don Johnson and Jon Embree, together with teammates Kevin Brown and Junior Lemau'u and Poly head coach Raul Lara.

What did they talk about? "We just chatted about the changes going on at UCLA with the football program, and we just talked football," Washington said. "We talked for at least one and a half to two hours."

Washington said that UCLA has verbally offered him, but he has nothing in writing.

He mentioned that the feeling the Poly players have from talking to the UCLA coaches is that it's a whole new era at UCLA. Washington said he and his teammates noted the difference in the mere fact that UCLA brought three coaches to the campus, including the head coach.

Asked how solid he thought his teammate Lemau'u's verbal was to Cal, Washington said, "It is pretty soft I think."

What about all three – Washington, Lemau'u and Brown -- playing together on the next level? "We have talked about it a little. It would be fun to do that."

Washington has already officially visited Colorado and Washington. He is scheduled to visit Arizona State this weekend. He will join his teammates and make his final official visit to UCLA on January 24th. He said he would more than likely make his decision soon after that visit.

Regarding a leader, Washington said, "Right now I would have to say it is Colorado, but really because I have already visited there."
